Retired NFL Player Grows Gardens with Vets
Dear PfP Community:
We are thrilled to launch our newest program following a successful pilot in Q4 2024: Battle Buds, a leadership & wellness community healing wounds. Battle Buds connects military and civilian families to grow food for people facing food insecurity. Our leadership & wellness community brings veterans and nonveterans together to grow food for people in need. Along the way, Battle Buds grow closer to each other, nature, and themselves through the healing power of gardening.
We plan to grow nationwide but will be launching our first full cohort in South Florida, specifically in Boca Raton. Former NFL’er and current PfP Gardening Coach Lee Hightower III will be leading this cohort on a journey of growth through a robust curriculum centered on PfP’s three pillars: Wellness, Connectedness, and Social Entrepreneurship. Lee guides the group through weekly sessions and follows up with the group to check in on the growth of the plants — and the group. Lessons include Introduction and Growing an Herb Garden, Vegetable Gardening Basics, and Social Entrepreneurship with Rejuvenation.
Check out Lee’s story in his own words, and if you would like to participate in the program, sign up here!
“For most of my life, I trained my body to perform at the highest level. As a professional athlete, my focus was on pushing harder, recovering faster, and maximizing performance. Strength, speed, and conditioning were my entire world.
I finished my football career in Japan, joining the X League after my 2-year stint in the NFL. There, I observed a completely different approach to health and longevity. There, elders in their 80s and 90s thrived because their environment and culture provided natural support for physical movement, proper nutrition, and restoration.
There were no "10-step biohacking routines." No obsession with macros or widespread gym memberships that created this longevity. Health was a byproduct of daily life—walking everywhere, eating fresh seasonal food, and aligning with natural rhythms. It was a stark contrast to the U.S. fitness culture, where people are told that harder workouts and stricter diets are the only path to health.
I didn’t know it yet, but that experience planted a seed that would later grow into my life’s work…
Here’s how I help people restore their energy and vitality:
✅ Promoting strength, mobility, and circadian alignment to enhance vitality.
✅ Creating wellness-centered farms, gardens, and environments that promote health effortlessly.
✅ Teaching individuals and organizations how to design their lives and spaces for lasting energy and resilience.
I am on a mission to help people reclaim their natural vitality through aligning with the truth about movement, nature, and food. Energy then becomes a natural byproduct of aligned living, not something people must chase.”
Join Lee and the group of veterans and civilians to connect and grow, together. We are here to support true health and longevity.
Patriotically,
Points for Patriots
