Independence Day 2026
Dear PfP Community:
Imagine this: your family gathers from all over with one mission — find a way to take better care of each other. Every one recognizes no one is perfect, but they choose to give each other the benefit of the doubt. They have hard conversations, and commit to one thing: progress doesn’t stop when they go home. They agree, even with reservations, to meet in the middle.
That is what happened when America was founded.
The 4th of July celebrates the founding of the United States, and the ideas that brought this country to life. At the center of the process was fairness.
The founders of the United States knew they couldn’t achieve perfection. But, creating a government that was more fair, and a process to improve that government through input and participation, was the goal.
And that’s why the founders fought the Revolutionary War, to create a government that worked better for the people.
Next year the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary. This year, the United States Army, Navy and Marine Corps celebrate their 250th anniversary. Before the nation could claim the title, “Land of the Free,” we had to become, “Home of the Brave.”
For 250 years, that is what our armed services have done relentlessly. The brave men and women in uniform have answered this nation’s call to service. For some, a parent or grandparent served. For others, the military is a pathway to opportunity and adventure. But, everyone who serves, also sacrifices something for this country.
Independence Day is the ultimate bridge between the military-civilian divide. Without the brave men and women who serve, there would be no independence. And our military serves to protect citizens and ideals, not power. That is what makes the American bond with the military a sacred one. We are a nation worth fighting for, protected by people willing to fight.
Imagine this -- we are the family that came together to find a way to take care of one another. Sure, we are not perfect, but we are still worth fighting for. We acknowledge our differences, but we don’t stop there, we find a way to bridge the divides between us. We find a way to understand one another and honor the contributions that everyone brings to the table.
Our military plays a strong defense for our values, but defense is only half of a winning team. Building bridges takes an offensive strategy and that’s where our civilian population leads.
Pro tip: Freedom is a team effort. We have to keep showing up for each other. We might not be perfect, but if we try, we can be “more perfect” than we were yesterday.
Patriotically,
Points for Patriots
